
TEC Basic (EN)
The course focuses primarily on improving buoyancy control, finning techniques, team awareness and controlled ascents with and without the use of a surface marker buoy.
Participants practise basic procedures for dealing with faulty equipment and loss of breathing gas. The course can be undertaken using recreational diving equipment. To progress to TEC diving at a later stage, you can upgrade to the TEC Fundamental level by completing a skills assessment and an update on equipment configuration and diving techniques.

Participants will practice procedures for dealing with equipment malfunctions and loss of breathing gas. The course can be conducted using recreational diving equipment. To later transition to TEC diving, you can upgrade to the TEC Fundamental level by completing a proficiency assessment and receiving an update on equipment configuration and diving techniques.
Training Objective
- Problem Solving – Stationary
- Resolving Individual Errors
- Mastery of fundamental, stationary safety concepts through consistent practice routines
- Minimum age of 16
- Proof of medical fitness, no older than 2 years
- Proof of i.a.c. Advanced Open Water Diver and i.a.c. Nitrox Basic or equivalent
- Proof of at least 25 logged dives
- For minors, a consent form from a parent or legal guardian is required

A mandatory requirement for the successful completion of the respective course is the practical training. This will incur additional costs. These costs are to be paid separately to the DiveCenter selected by you.
The pricing for the practical training is up to the respective DiveCenter and can vary accordingly.
At the end of the course, upon successful completion of the practical training, you will receive your certification confirming that you have successfully completed the i.a.c. TEC Basic course.
Limit after successful course completion
- Maximum depth of 30 meters
- within the no-decompression limit; no decompression dives
The purchase of an i.a.c. e-Academy course does not automatically lead to certification of the respective course. For a valid certification, the required practice units according to the Training Record Card must also be carried out with an i.a.c. instructor. Instructor and be finally approved by this instructor. The additional costs for the practice units/examinations are to be paid by the purchasing person to the DiveCenter itself.
