Here you’ll learn how to find your way underwater at any time during your dive.
The i.a.c. Specialty Navigation course covers the techniques and methods of navigation while diving. You’ll learn how to navigate using a compass and dive computer, estimate distances, and identify and locate landmarks. The course includes both theory and practical exercises and is designed to improve your safety and confidence underwater.

THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL TRAINING
- Natural navigation (e.g., depth contours, underwater growth, bottom conditions, light penetration)
- Navigation using instruments (e.g., compass, depth gauges, watch, dive computer)
- Compass orientation (principle, design, handling, sources of error)
- Behavior and actions to take if you lose your bearings
- Natural navigation and locating the entry point using existing landmarks
- Return course
- Square course
- Triangulation course, possibly with SMBs for marking to simplify/verify
- Minimum age of 12
- Proof of good health
- Proof of i.a.c. Open Water Diver certification or equivalent
- For minors, a consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian is required

A mandatory requirement for the successful completion of the respective course is the practical training. This will incur additional costs. These costs are to be paid separately to the DiveCenter selected by you.
The pricing for the practical training is up to the respective DiveCenter and can vary accordingly.
At the end of the course and upon successful completion of the practical training, you will receive your certification, which attests that you have successfully completed the i.a.c. Specialty Navigation.
The purchase of an i.a.c. e-Academy course does not automatically lead to certification of the respective course. For a valid certification, the required practice units according to the Training Record Card must also be carried out with an i.a.c. instructor. Instructor and be finally approved by this instructor. The additional costs for the practice units/examinations are to be paid by the purchasing person to the DiveCenter itself.
